KING OF KINGS—HE IS THE DIVINE SOVEREIGN AND AUTHORITY

Isaiah 9:6-7 (NASB)—“For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”

Zechariah 14:9 (NASB)—“And the Lord will be King over all the earth; on that day the LORD will be the only one.”

John 1:41 (NASB)—“He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ).”

Acts 2:36 (NASB)—“Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified.”

Revelation 19:16 (NASB)—“And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written: “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."

Devotional — In the biblical narrative, the concept of a king as divinely authorized is deeply rooted in the understanding of God's sovereignty and His governance over His chosen people. This divine authorization is evident throughout the Scriptures, where kingship is portrayed as part of God's providential plan for His people. The Bible also emphasizes the concept of divine kingship, where God is recognized as the ultimate King over all creation. This is evident in passages such as Psalm 47:7, "For God is King of all the earth; sing profound praises to Him." The divine kingship theme underscores God's sovereignty, justice, and authority over human affairs. The Old Testament prophets foretold the coming of a Messianic King from the line of David who would establish an everlasting kingdom. Isaiah 9:6-7 speaks of a child born to us, who will be called "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace," and whose government and peace will have no end. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ is revealed as the fulfillment of these Messianic prophecies. He is acknowledged as King by the Magi at His birth (Matthew 2:2) and later by His followers. Jesus' kingship is characterized by humility and servanthood, as He declared, "My kingdom is not of this world" (John 18:36). The New Testament continues to explore the theme of kingship, particularly in the context of Jesus' role as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:16). His reign is both present and future, as He currently rules in the hearts of believers and will one day return to establish His kingdom in its fullness. Believers are called to live as subjects of Christ's kingdom, embodying the values and principles of His reign. This includes righteousness, justice, and love, as outlined in the teachings of Jesus and the apostles. The title "King of Kings" is a significant designation found within the biblical narrative, attributed to both earthly rulers and, most importantly, to God and Jesus Christ. This title underscores supreme authority and ultimate sovereignty, reflecting a hierarchy where the bearer of the title reigns over all other kings and rulers. The title "King of Kings" as applied to Jesus Christ carries deep theological significance. It affirms His divinity, His fulfillment of messianic prophecies, and His role as the ultimate ruler who will establish God's kingdom in its fullness. This title assures believers of Christ's supreme authority over all earthly and spiritual realms, providing hope and confidence in His ultimate victory and the establishment of His eternal kingdom. In summary, the title "King of Kings" serves as a powerful reminder of the sovereignty and majesty of God and Jesus Christ. It reflects the biblical theme of divine authority over all creation and the ultimate triumph of God's kingdom.

Prayer — Let us give thanks that we have a King who is sovereign over all creation. Whose authority precedes any earthly kings, rulers, or governments.  For His rule and His kingdom is perfect. Christ rules with love, righteousness, and justice. In His kingdom there will be no more oppression, hate, pain, and death. Let our cry to Heaven be “Even so, Come LORD Jesus!”
